Académie de Paris Authorization:
Under the French private education system, private schools are either “sous contrat” – with the government paying teachers’ salaries and the school following the national curriculum – or “hors contrat” - not funded by the government, and therefore not obligated to follow any particular curriculum.

The European City University (ECU) is a "hors contrat" school, therefore our diplomas/awards are institutional.

Due to the nature of its authorization, operations and legal allowance in France, ECU seeks program-related recognition and accreditation from other government-recognized organizations in the EU and globally.

Restrictions
Under the current French education law, private education institutions cannot use the terms baccalauréat, licence, master, doctorat for their institutional degrees/awards. ECU uses the terms “Bachelor”, |Master| and “Doctor” in its diploma titles strictly as authorized by the Académie de Paris; these are institutional diplomas and are not classified as national diplomas. All our programs are taught and delivered only in English and completely via distance learning method.

Transparency
Private education institutions must clearly differentiate their degrees from national degrees issued by public education institutions to avoid misrepresentation while maintaining their values. To reiterate and avoidance of doubts, ECU issued diplomas are institutional diplomas and not national diplomas.
